What a career Elijah has got, I am so jealous, (me wanting to be an actress myself!) It was actually when I saw 'Lij in Lord of the Rings that I realised I wanted to be an actress too, I was like, " Wow, that would've been so much fun!" I s'pose you could say he was my inspiration!
Anyway, Elijah was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was an energetic kid (thats how he aquired the nickname Sparkplug- a name which he will use for his production company) who loved climbing things. One time he even locked his mother out and she watched through the window as little 'Lij destroyed the kitchen! When his mother was watching TV one day, she got the idea to channel Elijah's energy into acting. The family moved to LA and not long after joining a talent agency, he was cast in Paula Abdul's "Forever your Girl". From then on, his career has only gotten better!
Elijah never had any acting training, he just " had a knack for it". He went to a regular school for the first few years, but then it became tricky- always being away on film sets, so he was home schooled. Elijah thinks he was happier this way but there was a blip when he was about 11, " I really felt the lack of friends and the social situation of being with people my own age" he says. For a short while, he wanted to stop acting, but changed his mind (thank God!), " ultimately I felt like I enjoyed what I was doing much more than what I was missing" (he says). Although he is glad he skipped a regular high school: " There are these kinds of social cliques, and do you belong, do you not belong? Its such f***ing bulls**t, it really is..."
Elijah parents divorced about 6 years ago, his father stayed in Iowa and Elijah has never been back to Cedar Rapids. Unfortunately he and his father dont really have any sort of relationship " It just is what it is, He was phisically there, but never emotionally there. I was not raised by my dad" he says.
